Calculation Of Parental Fee / Contribution Under
New Fee Structure Just Passed by State Legislature

To calculate parental fees under restructured parental fee provisions, use the following steps:

  1. Determine parent'(s') monthly adjusted gross income (AGI).

  2. Subtract $200 per month, or $2,400 per year, from the AGI if child receiving services lives in the home. Non-custodial parent: subtract from AGI the amount of court-ordered child support actually paid for the child who receives services on the program. (Don't subtract child support for other children in the house who are not receiving services.)

  3. Determine fee amount using the following table. The 2003 Federal Poverty Guidelines are set out in the table below.
Adjusted Gross Income (AGI)**
(Less deductions to income as listed above)
Proposed Fee
Less than 100% of Federal Poverty Guidelines (FPG) $0
Between 100% and 175% of FPG $4 per month
Between 175% and 375% of FPG Fee is determined using a sliding fee scale established by Commissioner of Human Services, beginning at 1% and ending at 7.5% of AGI** (less deductions).
Between 375% and 675% of FPG 7.5% of AGI (less deductions)
Between 675% and 975% of FPG 10% of AGI (less deductions)
Over 975% of FPG 12.5% of AGI (less deductions)
